Assertiveness is a skill regularly referred to in social and communication skills training. Being assertive means being able to stand up for your own or other people’s rights in a calm and positive way, without being either aggressive or passively accepting ‘wrong’.  Assertive individuals are able to get their point across without upsetting others or becoming upset themselves.

Although everyone acts in passive and aggressive ways from time to time, such ways of responding often result from a lack of self-confidence and are, therefore, inappropriate ways of interacting with others. Here we examine the rights and responsibilities of assertive behaviour and aim to show how assertiveness can benefit you.

He has worked in multiple domains including over 10 years in the Indian Air Force plus in financial services and telecom. He has an MBA in HR, is a member of Achology the academy of modern applied psychology, from where he has various certifications in Counselling, Coaching, CBT and other disciplines. He presently looks after Sustainability and Digital Transformation for Mental Health Action Trust, an Ashoka an NGO based out of Kerala, India, founded by Ashoka Fellow Dr.Manoj Kumar. MHAT offers recovery-oriented mental health care to the poorest of the poor.
